6.4 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia, no casualties

Jakarta| A magnitude 6.4 earthquake was felt on the Richter scale in Bengkulu province, Indonesia. The officials gave this information and said that no casualties or losses were reported. An official of the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency, Alfat Abubakar, told the Xinhua news agency that there is no possibility of a tsunami from the earthquake.

The agency first reported that the earthquake is of 6.5 magnitudes, but later revised to 6.4.

The earthquake occurred at 7.52 pm on Wednesday. Its center was at 80 kilometers southwest of Ingano Island and at a depth of 10 kilometers under the sea.

Wilson Hendry, head of the emergency management agency of the Disaster Management Agency in North Bengkulu district, said that in Ingano Island, sharp shocks cause damage or casualties.

He told Xinhua, “I called the deputy district chief of Ingano, there were no buildings damaged or people were injured. The situation was fine.”
