Jaishankar Meets Arab League Diplomats; Discusses Role of Technology in Shaping the World

New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with a group of diplomats from the Arab League (League of Arab States) on Monday at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in New Delhi. During the interaction, he discussed the far-reaching impact of ongoing global conflicts and the growing role of technology in transforming the world today.

On the social media platform ‘X’, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting the Arab League diplomats currently undergoing training in India. He noted that the conversation covered the wide-ranging consequences of existing global conflicts and the evolving influence of technology.

He emphasized that India and the Arab nations are not only neighbors but also partners within the ‘Global South.’ In this context, he highlighted the importance of strengthening economic cooperation to overcome barriers to trade and development, and to counter any form of undue pressure.

Jaishankar advised the diplomats to make the most of their time in India and to strive for a deeper understanding of the country, its culture, and its people. Wishing them well for the duration of their training, he expressed hope that the experience would prove both productive and memorable.

Earlier in August, Sripriya Ranganathan, Secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs) at the Ministry of External Affairs, met with the Arab League’s Assistant Secretary-General, Khaled Manzalawi. The discussion primarily focused on advancing the 2026–28 Executive Program, which was adopted during the second meeting of the India-Arab Foreign Ministers.

India has long maintained friendly and robust relations with the member states of the Arab League. The Arab League was established in Cairo in 1945; it began with seven member states and was founded with the objective of promoting the shared interests of its member nations. Currently, this organization comprises a total of 22 Arab nations from North Africa and West Asia.

According to the Indian Embassy in Egypt, the countries of the Arab League are considered part of India’s extended neighborhood. India’s commitment to strengthening ties with this region, a shared perspective on international issues, and robust trade and economic relations form the solid foundation of India-Arab relations.
