Aftab Amin Poonawala told the court – the bail application was filed by mistak

New Delhi| Aftab Amin Poonawalla, an accused in the Shraddha Walker murder case, told the Saket court on Saturday that he had signed the Vakalatnama but was not aware of the filing of the bail application. Aftab was presented in court through video conferencing.

Additional Sessions Judge Vrinda Kumari said the court has received an email from Poonawala that the bail application has been filed by mistake.

However, when the court asked him whether the bail plea should be pending, Poonawalla said, “I would like the lawyer to talk to me and then withdraw the bail plea.”

On Friday, Poonawala had applied for bail in the court.

On December 9, the court had extended Poonawalla’s judicial custody by 14 days. He was arrested on November 12 and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Sources said on Thursday that DNA was mixed with the samples of his father from the body parts recovered in Mehrauli forest. After which there was an official confirmation of the brutality of the murder.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda had said that the police have received the DNA test report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and the polygraph test report from FSL, Rohini.

Poonawalla’s post-narco test was done on 2 December. He was tested inside Tihar Jail by FSL officials.

Poonawalla’s polygraph test report was handed over to the police by the Forensic Sciences Lab (FSL) on Wednesday.

Delhi Police teams probing the case had recovered 13 body parts.

Blood samples were also recovered from the bathroom and kitchen of the Chhatarpur house where both Poonawalla and Walker had shifted on May 15.

Walker and Poonawalla met in 2018 through the dating app ‘Bumble’. He came to Delhi on 8 May.

According to information, on May 18, Aftab killed Shraddha and cut her body into 35 pieces and threw it at different places.
