Blast in Afghanistan, 30 injured

KABUL| At least 30 people, including 10 civilians, were injured in a car bombing in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. The officials gave this information on Monday. Tolo News quoted officials as saying that the blast occurred around 8 pm Sunday near the police headquarters in Maivand district of Kandahar province.

No group, including the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

In Kandahar there have been sharp clashes between Afghan security forces and the Taliban, after which the explosion occurred.

Tolo News reported that Helmand, the neighboring province of Kandahar, has witnessed a clash between government forces and the Taliban for the past few weeks.

A report released on 7 November claimed that Taliban violence in Afghanistan has increased by 50 percent in the last three months as the deadlock in peace talks in Doha persists.

Citing General Scott Miller, commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, the report noted that the ongoing violence poses a serious threat to the Afghan peace process.
