Britain’s Sikh MP Dhesi asked Johnson to clarify his stance on the farmers’ issue

CHANDIGARH | Expressing solidarity with protesting farmers in India, British Labor Party MP Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi on Wednesday asked British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to clarify his stand on the issue of farmers. Dhesi has also asked Johnson to raise the issue with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi during his scheduled visit to India next month.

The Sikh MP from Southall, UK, has appealed to Prime Minister Johnson to clarify his position on farmers’ opposition during his scheduled visit to India in January. Along with this, the Sikh MP also urged the Indian Prime Minister to raise this big issue and resolve it soon.

Earlier, Dhesi asked Johnson in Parliament to comment on the farmers’ opposition and expressed his concern about the alleged use of force against him and early resolution of the current deadlock for Modi.

The agitated peasants are demanding repeal of the three agricultural laws passed by Parliament and have expressed fears that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system will be abolished and they will remain dependent on large corporate houses.

The government has ensured that the new laws will provide better opportunities for farmers. The government has also accused the opposition parties of misleading the farmers.
