Sharjah, Oct 13  Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma took two wickets each to restrict Australia to 151 for eight in a do-or-die Women’s T20 World Cup match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

India suffered a setback even before the game began. Asha Shobna injured her knee during the warm-up after the toss. The Australia captain agreed to a late change at the request of the match referee and Radha Yadav was included in the playing 11.

The second change in India’s team was Pooja Vastrakar, who replaced S. Sanjana. Australia did not have their regular captains Alyssa Healy and Tayla Vlaeminck in the team, who were replaced by Grace Harris and Darcie Brown.

Winning the toss and batting first, Australia could not make much use of the powerplay. Renuka Singh, Shreyanka Patil and Pooja Vastrakar bowled tight line lengths. The pitch was slow and the ball was staying low due to which the Australian batsmen could not open their hands.

Grace Harris started by hitting a four towards point off Renuka’s ball on the second ball of the innings. Harmanpreet gave the second over to Shreyanka who bowled four dot balls to Beth Mooney and conceded just two runs in the over.

In the next over, Mooney, who looked under pressure, tried to open her hands but was caught by Radha at backward point. Renuka got Georgia Wareham LBW on the next ball to get her second wicket on consecutive balls. Stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath then took the innings forward with Grace.

Puja bowled the fourth over of the innings and conceded six runs. Australia’s score after six overs was 37/2.

Arundhati Reddy came on the attack in the seventh over and kept the pressure on the Australian batsmen. In the next over, Tahlia and Grace hit fours off Pooja and added a total of 10 runs.

Deepti Sharma started with a brilliant over and restricted Australia to 65/2 in 10 overs. Meanwhile, Tahlia became the fastest Australian woman player to complete 1000 T20 runs. She completed this feat in 37 innings, one less than Meg Lanning.

India restricted Australia to just 151 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma took two wickets each.

Hyderabad, October 12 . Batting first in the third and final T20 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here, after setting a huge target of 298 runs, India, with the help of leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s 3-30, on Saturday restricted Bangladesh to 164/7 and registered a thumping 133-run win. With this, India completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the series.

On the back of Sanju Samson’s brilliant first T20 International century (111 runs in 47 balls) and captain Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant 75-run innings, India scored a record-breaking 297/6 in the stipulated 20 overs, which is the team’s highest score so far in T20 International matches. After this, Bishnoi and other bowlers restricted Bangladesh to 164/7 and gave the team a one-sided victory.

The 133-run victory margin achieved in front of the home crowd on Dussehra is also India’s third-largest victory in terms of runs in men’s T20 matches.

In Bangladesh’s innings, Mayank Yadav gave India a good start by taking the wicket of Parvez Hussain on the very first ball. While trying to pull, the ball hit his glove and went to first slip.

Washington Sundar gave Bangladesh the second blow by getting Tanjid Hasan caught at third man. After this, Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto tried to reverse-sweep Ravi Bishnoi’s ball, but the ball took the top edge of the bat and went straight into the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

Liton Das and Tauheed Hridoy shared a 53-run partnership. However, Das was caught out at deep midwicket off Bishnoi’s ball after scoring 42 runs in 25 balls. The leg-spinner became the joint-third Indian bowler to take the fastest 50 wickets in men’s T20 Internationals.

Mahmudullah’s final T20 innings ended on eight runs. He was holed out at long-on off Mayank.

Mahedi Hasan went for the big hit but was holed out in the deep off Nitish Kumar Reddy, with Bishnoi getting his third victim of the match by having Rishad Hussain caught at long-off.

Amidst all this, Hridoy completed his half-century by hitting Bishnoi for a six and remained unbeaten on 63.

Brief scores:

India 297/6 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 111, Suryakumar Yadav 75; Tanzim Hasan Sakib 3-66) beat Bangladesh 164/7 in 20 overs (Tauheed Hridoy 63 not out, Liton Das 42; Ravi Bishnoi 3-30, Mayank Yadav 2-32) by 133 runs.

Dubai, 6 October. With the brilliant performance of the bowlers led by medium pacer Arundhati Reddy (three wickets for 19 runs) and useful innings of Shefali Verma (32) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (29 retired hurt), India registered its first win by beating arch-rival Pakistan by six wickets in its second match of Group A of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.

India kept its semi-final hopes alive by scoring 108 runs for four wickets in 18.5 overs after restricting Pakistan to a paltry 105 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs.

India has got its first win in this tournament, but could the Indian team have chased the target with more speed, because the Indian team’s net run rate is negative and its next two matches are against Sri Lanka and Australia. If India had achieved this target by 11.2 overs, then India’s net run rate could have been positive.

Arundhati Reddy, who took three wickets in Pakistan’s innings, received the Player of the Match award. While chasing the target, India once again lost opener Smriti Mandhana cheaply. Mandhana was dismissed for seven runs and the team’s score was 18.

Shefali then put India on the path to victory with a crucial 43-run partnership for the second wicket with Jemimah Rodrigues. Shefali was dismissed for 32 runs with the help of three fours in 35 balls. In the 16th over of the innings, Fatima Sana brought excitement to the match by giving two blows in two balls to India. Fatima dismissed Jemimah and Richa Ghosh and reduced India’s score to 80 runs for four wickets. Jemimah scored 23 runs in 28 balls.

After two wickets fell in quick succession, captain Harmanpreet took charge and retired hurt after scoring 29 runs in 24 balls. Harman went outside the leg stump to play Nida Dar’s ball, played on the inside out, got a fuller ball outside the off stump and finally went to open the face of the bat and lost balance, Harman fell on the crease and now the physio has come on the field, Harman had fallen forward, but brought the back leg to the crease, it seems that she has a strain in her neck. Sajeevan Sajna gave India the victory by hitting a four as soon as she came.

Earlier there was a time when it seemed that the Pakistan team would not be able to play the full 20 overs but in the last overs Pakistan took the pace forward. Two catches were also missed from Shobhana Asha but overall India stopped Pakistan on a low score.

This match, which was played on a new pitch, was the 100th T20 match to be played in Dubai.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. But after losing Gul Ferozza in the first over, Pakistan’s innings never got back on track and they lost wickets at regular intervals. Muniba Ali (17), Nida Dar (28), captain Fatima Sana (13) and Syeda Arub Shah (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures.

For India, Arundhati Reddy took three wickets for 19 runs in four overs while Shreyanka Patil took two wickets for just 12 runs. Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma and Shobhana Asha took one wicket each.

SC Freiburg faced off against FC St. Pauli at the Europa-Park Stadion for only the third time in history, but this match marked the first encounter between the two sides in the Bundesliga. Previously, Freiburg had won both their meetings at the stadium—one in the arena’s opening game in 2021 and another in a DFB-Pokal match during the 2022/23 season. However, this time, St. Pauli emerged victorious, handing Freiburg a 3-0 defeat.

The match started with Freiburg controlling possession, while St. Pauli, freshly promoted and with only one point from their first four games, sat deep to close off space. Both teams had a quiet start, with neither goalkeeper being tested early on. But in the 18th minute, St. Pauli capitalized on their first real chance. Elias Saad pounced on a loose ball in Freiburg’s penalty area, putting the visitors ahead against the run of play. This unexpected opener marked the third consecutive home game in which Freiburg had fallen behind.

Freiburg responded quickly, as they had done in their previous matches. In the 16th minute, a Vincenzo Grifo free kick forced a good save from St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj, sparking the game into life. Moments later, Philipp Treu’s shot for St. Pauli was blocked by Philipp Lienhart, while Freiburg’s own attacks down the left side failed to find a final touch to convert their crosses.

St. Pauli nearly doubled their lead when Eric Smith struck the bar from a free kick in the 35th minute. Freiburg had a golden opportunity to level the score just minutes later. A foul on Matthias Ginter in the box led to a penalty after the referee consulted VAR. However, Grifo’s penalty was saved by Vasilj, leaving Freiburg frustrated.

Moments after the missed penalty, St. Pauli punished Freiburg further. Just before halftime, Oladapo Afolayan capitalized on another defensive error by Freiburg, firing a low shot into the net to make it 2-0 for St. Pauli.

Despite Freiburg’s efforts to push forward in the second half, St. Pauli’s defense held firm. In the 79th minute, the visitors sealed their win with a third goal, handing SC Freiburg a surprising 3-0 defeat. It was a clinical performance from St. Pauli, as they took full advantage of their limited chances, while Freiburg struggled to convert their possession into goals.

Kochi, Sep 21 Kerala Blasters FC will be looking for a win in the Indian Super League (ISL) season 2024-25 when they take on East Bengal FC in a match to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday at 7:30 pm.

Kerala Blasters lost their first match of season 11 to Punjab FC. The Blasters gave a tough fight to Punjab FC in the last match, due to which Punjab FC had to struggle till the last moment for the winning goal. On the other hand, East Bengal FC were defeated by Bengaluru FC 1-0 in the opening match. The Red and Gold Brigade constantly troubled the Blues’ defense before losing and they hope that the same kind of effort in this match will yield the desired results.

Cuadrat’s side dominate against KBFC

Cuadrat’s side have scored in all seven matches they have played against Kerala Blasters FC in the ISL, scoring 15 goals, which is their second-most against any opponent in the league.

“We will bounce back”

Mikael Stahre, who recently took over as Kerala Blasters FC head coach, wants his side to play with more precision. Against Punjab FC, the team shared the ball more (57.3%), had better passing accuracy (72% vs 66%) and had more shots on target (4 vs 3). But the Swedish coach is demanding more.

“We have to put more players in attack, play more passes, be more accurate and tactical and be more effective. I am positive, but right now, this loss really hurts. But we will bounce back,” he said.

“We have tried to attack from the gaps through the pace of the youngsters”

Spanish head coach Carlos Cuadrat brought in Kerala youngsters PV Vishnu and Aman CK in the second half against Bengaluru FC. Despite being relatively less experienced, both of these youngsters were at the forefront of creating opportunities for East Bengal in the last moments of the match.

The Spanish coach said, “In the game, we have tried to use the gaps through their pace. Aman CK, PV Vishnu and Nandakumar (Sekar) created chances by using the gaps and putting in crosses. We tried to finish and unfortunately, we could not score. But I think they will give a lot to the team in the future as well.” He further said, “The opening match of the season was difficult, but now we are moving forward. Tomorrow’s match will be difficult. Our goal tomorrow is to play well, be competitive and come back.”

Players to watch out for

Both Kerala Blasters and East Bengal have strong players who can make an impact on this match.

The Yellow Army will be hoping for some big goals from new signing Jesus Jimenez, who scored on his debut against Punjab FC last season. He is the eighth Kerala Blasters player to do so.

East Bengal rely on Dimitrios Diamantakos for goals as the Greek striker won the Golden Boot of the last ISL season 2023-24 by scoring 13 goals for the Blasters.

Kerala Blasters FC’s Nouha Sadaoui has had 7.3 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes in the ISL since the start of 2024. This is the most.

Chennai, September Led by Jasprit Bumrah (4 wickets for 50 runs), India bowled out Bangladesh for 149 runs in the first innings after tea on Friday, the second day of the first Test, thanks to a strong performance by the bowlers. India got a huge lead of 227 runs in the first innings but decided to play in the second innings without enforcing follow-on and scored 81 runs for the loss of three wickets till stumps on the second day. India now has a total lead of 308 runs.

In India’s second innings, captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for five, Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 and Virat Kohli for 17 runs. At stumps, Shubman Gill was at the crease with 33 runs and Rishabh Pant with 12 runs. India got a big lead of 227 runs in the first innings, which has now increased its total lead to 308 runs.

Earlier, apart from Bumrah’s four wickets in Bangladesh’s first innings, Mohammad Siraj, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each. Bumrah became the sixth Indian fast bowler to take 400 international wickets during this period. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan scored 32, Mehdi Hasan Miraz remained unbeaten on 27, Liton Kumar Das scored 22 and captain Nazmul Hussain Shanto scored 20 runs.

India had pushed Bangladesh on the backfoot by taking three wickets in the first session. Bangladesh lost five more batsmen in the second session.

After lunch, Siraj kept the ball in line and it took the outside edge of Nazmul Hussain Shanto’s bat and went straight to third slip. In the next over, Bumrah moved the ball late and it took a good edge of Mushfiqur Rahim’s bat and went to second slip. Despite consistent line and length from the bowlers, Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan tried to hold on to the situation.

The duo hit superb drives off Bumrah, Siraj and Akash Deep before Shakib hit more boundaries off loose deliveries from Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

The 51-run stand for the sixth wicket ended when Das tried to sweep a delivery from Jadeja outside off-stump but the ball went to substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel at deep backward square leg. Das made 22.

In Jadeja’s next over, Shakib tried to reverse-sweep but the ball hit his shoe and Rishabh Pant stepped forward to take an easy catch. Hasan Mahmud and Mehdi Hasan Miraz hit three boundaries each. Bumrah had Hasan Mahmud caught at second slip at tea.

India took two more wickets after tea and wrapped up the visitors’ innings at 149 runs. Bumrah bowled Taskin Ahmed and Siraj bowled Nahid Rana. Taskin and Nahid Rana both scored 11-11 runs.

In the morning session, the Indian team was able to add 37 runs to their yesterday’s score. Taskin Ahmed gave the first three blows to India while Hasan Mahmud took the last wicket in the form of Jasprit Bumrah and bowled out the Indian innings. Mahmud bowed down as soon as he opened his hands. He has also become the first bowler from Bangladesh to take a five-wicket haul in India. Yesterday, Mahmud also took the first four wickets of India. Mahmud got five wickets for 83 runs and Taskin Ahmed got three wickets for 55 runs.

India’s experienced off-spin all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin played the role of top scorer in the Indian innings.

Akash Deep (17) was caught at mid-off off Taskin after hitting four boundaries. Taskin picked up his third wicket of the day when Ashwin mistimed his drive and was caught at mid-off, leaving him on 113 off 133 balls. The Chepauk crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Mahmud ended India’s first innings with Jasprit Bumrah caught at third slip in less than an hour on day two. The pacer also became the first Bangladesh bowler to take five-wicket hauls in Tests in India.
