Islamabad, May 7. Pakistan has been put on ‘red alert’ after the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor’. Government hospitals across the country are ready for any emergency. Also, the airspace has been closed for all domestic and international flights for 24 to 36 hours.

Amid the attacks by the Indian Army, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will address the nation on Wednesday afternoon. He has also called an emergency National Security Committee (NSC) meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence to discuss the current security situation in the country and future action against India.

This important meeting will formulate policy and also consider the intervention of global powers, including the United States, who have called on both sides to exercise restraint and reduce the rapidly escalating tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

In fact, after the attack on terrorist hideouts by India, all educational institutions in the capital Islamabad and Punjab province have also been closed and all security forces have been asked to be ready.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said that at least 26 people have been killed and 46 others injured in the air strikes.

New Delhi said that the air strikes targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province. India’s attacks and Islamabad’s retaliation have shocked the locals, who fear that this could lead to a full-fledged war between the two countries. These attacks were carried out in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which four terrorists brutally killed 26 civilians.

The strikes by the Indian Army targeted six different locations in Pakistan, including Masjid Subhanallah in Ahmadpur Sharqia area of Bahawalpur city, the alleged hideout of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar.

Apart from this, several attacks were also carried out in other areas including Muridke, the alleged hideout and headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, besides other places in Muzaffarabad, Kotli and Bagh cities.

New Delhi, May 7  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that India’s space journey is not about competing with others, but it is based on ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ i.e. the whole world is one family.

Amid the growing competition in space exploration among global powers, Prime Minister Modi addressed the Global Conference on Space Exploration (GLEX 2025) through a video message. During this, he urged for collective development through space exploration.

PM Modi said, “India’s space vision is based on the ancient wisdom of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which means the world is one family. We strive not only for our own development but also to enrich global knowledge, solve common challenges and inspire future generations.”

He said India stands for dreaming together, building together and reaching the stars together.

Calling for the direction of science and shared dreams for a better tomorrow, he said “Let us together write a new chapter in space exploration.”

PM Modi said, “Space is not just a destination. It is a declaration of curiosity, courage and collective progress. The Indian space journey reflects this spirit. From launching a small rocket in 1963 to becoming the first country to land near the South Pole of the Moon, our journey has been spectacular. Our rockets carry much more than payloads. They carry the dreams of 1.4 billion Indians.” He listed space achievements like successful Mars mission, Chandrayaan-1, Chandrayaan-2, Chandrayaan-3, cryogenic engine launch and satellite docking and termed them as ‘important scientific milestones’.

He also announced upcoming missions like this year’s Human Space Flight Mission ‘Gaganyaan’, ISRO-NASA joint mission to International Space Station, establishment of Indian Space Station by 2035 and Moon mission by 2040.

“Mars and Venus are also on our radar. Apart from exploration, the country’s space journey is also about empowerment,” PM Modi said.

“It empowers governance, enhances livelihoods and inspires generations. From warnings to fishermen to Gati Shakti platforms, from railway safety to weather forecasts, our satellites take care of the welfare of every Indian,” he said.

New Delhi, Feb 20 . The launch of the iPhone 16E is an important step by Apple to maintain its growth momentum in India and revive demand in developed markets, industry experts said on Thursday.

Apple recently announced the iPhone 16E, a new product in the iPhone 16 lineup.

It offers powerful capabilities at a more affordable price.

The phone comes with the industry-leading efficiency of the A18 chip and the first cellular modem designed by Apple for fast, smooth performance and great battery life.

According to CyberMedia Research (CMR), the premium smartphone segment witnessed a robust growth of 36 per cent year-on-year in India, while the super-premium (Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000) and uber-premium (above Rs 1,00,000) segments recorded growth of 10 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively.

Almost one in every five devices now is a premium smartphone, driven by consumer cutting-edge technology and lifestyle-oriented preference.

Apple entered the top five smartphone brands in India for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2024, registering 72 per cent year-on-year growth and 11 per cent market share.

Prabhu Ram, VP-Industry Research Group, CyberMedia Research (CMR), said, “This latest iPhone 16E is a milestone for Apple, bringing the company one step closer to full control of its end-to-end platform, which seamlessly integrates hardware and software.” He added that the inclusion of Apple’s in-house cellular modem in the iPhone SE signals the beginning of a new era, laying the foundation for a broader shift to Apple’s proprietary modem technology for the upcoming iPhone 17 series and beyond. “India remains an important pillar of Apple’s long-term growth strategy, just as China was over the last decade. While it is still early days for Apple in India, its ongoing retail expansion, marketing efforts and affordability initiatives provide ample scope for growth in urban and aspirational India,” Ram told . According to Tarun Pathak, Research Director, Mobile Devices and Ecosystems at Counterpoint Research, the new iPhone 16E is impressive.

“In some key purchase decision factors like camera, the iPhone 16 base still proves to be an attractive option,” Pathak told IANS.

The premium segment in India is driven by EMI purchases, with 5 out of 10 users choosing financing to buy their devices.”

The iPhone 16E will be available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage capacities. The starting price of this new phone is Rs 59,900. The iPhone 16E will be available in two matte finish colours – black and white. Pre-orders will start from Friday and availability will start from February 28.

New Delhi, (Aamir Ali) 15 October : The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly  opened today in New Delhi, India, where policy-makers, industry leaders and tech experts will meet to consider global actions to reinforce the standardization work of ITU, the UN Agency for Digital Technologies.

The opening ceremony highlighted the push for universal connectivity, the need for ethical artificial intelligence (AI), the critical importance of consensus, and how digital inclusion can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

PM addressing the gathering at the inauguration of ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly and India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam, in New Delhi on October 15, 2024.

India’s Prime Minister, the Honourable Narendra Modi, inaugurated WTSA-24 alongside India Mobile Congress at a joint opening ceremony.

“The objective of WTSA is to work on global standards. At the same time, the India Mobile Congress plays a very big role for giving services to people. So, from that point of view, with this event that is taking place here, we are working on both standards and services, and both have been brought to one platform today,” said Modi. “Whatever standards we set in this field, this will set the path of our future. Therefore security, dignity and equity — on these principles we have to work, and this should be the centre stage of our discussion. Our objective should be that no country, no region and no community should be left behind the in this digital era.”

Held every four years, WTSA sets out priorities for experts from around the world who work year-round to develop the international standards established by ITU.

PM in a group photograph during the inauguration of ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly and India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam, in New Delhi on October 15, 2024.

The first WTSA ever held in the Asia-Pacific region will run from 15 to 24 October and comes at a time when India’s government, vibrant tech industry and research communities have become increasingly engaged in ITU’s standardization work.

“The world has a lot to learn from what India has accomplished with the Unified Payments Interface, Aadhaar, and other building blocks of today’s digital economy,” said ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. “This global gathering calls for bold, collective action. In the next ten days, we can strengthen the role of international standards as the bedrock of global digital governance.”

ITU’s standardization work is driven by the contributions and consensus decisions of ITU’s membership, including 194 Member States and over 1000 member companies, universities, and international and regional organizations.

WTSA reviews the strategy, structure and working methods of ITU’s standardization arm (ITU-T) every four years. The conference also approves the mandates and appoints the leadership teams of ITU-T  for international standardization.

ITU and partners kicked off the proceedings with the Global Standards Symposium  and celebrations of World Standards Day   on 14 October. Communications ministers, industry leaders and tech experts at GSS-24 showcased new innovation, exchanged insights and shared aspirations for international standards development.

The symposium reaffirmed the importance of investing in technical standards development to propel innovations in key areas like AI, smart cities and virtual worlds to accelerate sustainable development.
