CBSE 10th board exam canceled, 12th exam postponed

New Delhi | The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) 10th exam has been canceled amid the growing Corona transition across the country. With this, CBSE 12th examinations have been postponed. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced this on Wednesday. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst demands from students, teachers, parents and others to cancel the examinations.

The CBSE board examinations were scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 14 and the results were to be declared by July 15.

Nishank tweeted, “The Board’s Class X examinations scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 14, 2021. The results of Class X will be prepared based on objective criteria to be developed by the Board.”

He said, “If any candidate, who is not satisfied with the marks allotted to him on this basis, will be given an opportunity to appear in the examination when the conditions are favorable for conducting the examination.”

Nishank further said that the 12th class examination will be held later. For this, a review will be done by CBSE on June 1 and the status information will be shared later. At least 15 days’ notice will be given before the commencement of the examinations.

The minister mentioned that the decision has been taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the increase in corona cases.

In view of the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases for the last few days, there was a demand for the cancellation of the upcoming board examination for class 10th and 12th.

Apart from Nishank, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, School and Higher Education Secretary and other top officials attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister said that the well-being of the students should be the top priority for the government. He also said that the Center would take the best interests of the students into consideration and ensure that their health was taken care of, as well as not to harm their educational interests.
