Controversy over ‘The Kashmir Files’: 70 detained for creating ruckus outside Delhi CM’s house

New Delhi| The Delhi Police on Wednesday detained around 70 people for creating a ruckus outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here. The Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha had staged a protest over the Chief Minister’s recent remarks in the Assembly on the film ‘The Kashmir Files’.

The protest, led by BJP Yuva Morcha National Secretary Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and its national president Tejashwi Surya, began at around 10.30 am from IP College to the Chief Minister’s residence.

When the protesters reached the CM’s residence at around 11.30 am, they started shouting slogans against Kejriwal and his party. Around 1 pm some protesters broke two barricades put up near the CM residence and created a ruckus there.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sagar Singh Kalsi told IANS that the protesters who broke the barricades had “a small box of paint, they threw paint outside the door”.

“A boom barrier arm, as well as a CCTV camera, were found damaged,” Kalsi said.

The senior police officer further said that the police team immediately removed them from the spot and took about 70 people into custody. “Legal action is being initiated,” he said.

Meanwhile, AAP leaders have been blaming Delhi Police personnel for alleged inaction during the incident and alleged that the BJP is “trying to kill Arvind Kejriwal.”

The party tweeted, “BJP attacked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. Barriers were demolished, CCTV cameras broken, gates demolished in the presence of BJP’s Delhi Police. Depressed by AAP’s victory in Punjab, is BJP Arvind Kejriwal? Are you trying to kill Ji?”

AAP leader Raghav Chadha alleged that the BJP is angry with his defeat in Punjab and has now entered into shoddy politics. Chadha said, “The attack on the residence of Hon’ble Chief Minister by BJP goons is highly condemnable. In the presence of the police, these goons broke barricades, broke CCTV cameras. In the rage of Punjab’s defeat, BJP people indulged in such lousy politics. ”

BJPYM leaders Bagga and Surya alleged that Kejriwal should apologize for his remarks against Kashmiri Hindus.

“If apologizing for Kejriwal’s remarks on the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus is an anti-social activity, then yes we are an anti-social,” Bagga wrote on Twitter.

The BJP was constantly demanding the AAP government to make the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ tax-free in Delhi, however, Kejriwal recently turned down all such requests in the assembly and further urged the BJP to upload the film on YouTube and asked to spend the money earned on the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits. Apart from this, the Chief Minister of Delhi also said that ‘The Kashmir Files’ is a ‘false’ (not based on facts) film.

The Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKDP) took strong objection to the Chief Minister’s remarks and said that the ‘docudrama’ (The Kashmir Files) is based on individual evidence and careful documentation of community records.

Let us tell you that, in the past, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had given tax-free status to several films like ’83’ and ‘Saand Ki Aankh’.
