Farmers adamant on repealing new laws, so no solution: Tomar

NEW DELHI | Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said after talks with the farmer’s leaders on Monday that the leaders of the farmers union remained adamant on repealing the new laws, due to which there was no way out in today’s talks, but hope It is said that there will be meaningful discussion in the implementation meeting. Agriculture Minister Tomar was accompanied by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash in the seventh round of talks held at Vigyan Bhawan here with farmer leaders. Tomar said, “In today’s talks, the talks were also on the issue of MSP, but the farmer leaders kept on demanding the repeal of agricultural laws.”

After talking to the representatives of farmers’ organizations, Tomar told reporters that the next round of talks will now be held on January 8.

He said that today’s conversation took place in a good environment and it is hoped that there will be meaningful discussion ahead.

Before the commencement of the talks, the ministers expressed grief to the farmers who died during the Kisan agitation. Further, he welcomed the representatives of farmer organizations, congratulating and wishing the new year, and requested the farmer’s representatives to discuss the issue related to farmer welfare.

The Agriculture Minister said that in the last meeting held on December 30, 2020, there was a discussion that keeping in view their problems, the government is ready to make every effort to address the issues of farmers. At the same time, the government is making every effort to resolve the issue by discussing it openly with the farmer’s representatives. There is a need to step forward from both sides. The government is ready to consider keeping in mind all positive options.

The minister said that keeping in mind the interests of farmers, the issue related to agrarian reform laws will also be discussed with representatives of farmers’ organizations of other states.

He also said, “We will discuss these three laws point-by-point and we are ready to amend them as necessary after considering the points on which you have objections.”

In today’s meeting, it was decided with mutual agreement between the government and farmer leaders that the discussion will continue. The next meeting will be on January 8, 2021, at 2 pm.
