Female principal of Indore college set ablaze by former student, fighting to death

Bhopal | The woman principal of a private pharmacy college in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore was on Monday set on fire by a former student over a delay in issuing mark sheets. She suffered 80 percent burns. He was admitted to the hospital, where his condition is critical. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Vimukta Sharma.

According to the police, the incident took place at the BM Pharmacy College campus in the Simrol area in the evening when she was about to board her car to go home. At the same time Ashutosh Srivastava (22), an ex-student of the college, came near him and after a brief argument over the delay in issuing his mark sheet, doused him with petrol and set him on fire with a cigarette lighter.

Indore’s Superintendent of Police (Rural) B.S. Virde said Srivastava had passed the seventh and eighth semesters of the B.Pharma course in 2022 from the concerned private college, but the mark sheet was yet to be issued to him. For the same thing, four months ago also he had attacked college faculty member Vijay Patel with a knife, after which he was arrested under the Arms Act. He was released on bail only a few weeks back.

The police are also trying to ascertain why he is not getting the mark sheet from the college affiliated to the state government-run Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (RGPV).
