Gill and Pant’s centuries, chasing the target of 515 runs, Bangladesh 56/0 till tea

With the help of brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, India declared their second innings at 287/4 after lunch on Saturday on the third day of the first Test match at Chepauk and gave Bangladesh a huge target of 515 runs. Chasing this, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam remained unbeaten by scoring 32 and 21 runs respectively and took the team to 56/0 till tea.

Earlier, Team India had scored 376 runs in the first innings. In response, the Bangladesh team was reduced to just 149 runs. With a lead of 227 runs in the second innings, India took it to a big target of 515 runs.

Talking about Team India’s second innings, this time too the Bangladesh team was successful in getting early wickets. But after getting out for zero in the first innings, Gill played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 119 runs in the second innings which included 10 fours and 4 sixes. While Rishabh Pant gave him full support and scored a century. During this, he played an innings of 109 runs hitting 13 fours and 4 sixes.

Both of them put the Bangladeshi bowlers on the backfoot by sharing 167 runs for the fourth wicket. In the second session, everyone’s attention was on when India would declare its innings.

Apart from these two, KL Rahul scored 22 not out, Virat Kohli scored 17, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 10 and Rohit Sharma scored 5 runs. On the other hand, Mehdi Hasan Miraz took 2 wickets in the second innings for Bangladesh. Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed got 1-1 wickets.
