NEW YORK| Indian-American organizations and leaders are seeing America as a land of dream fulfillment opportunities after the election of American Vice President Kamala Harris and look forward to working with Harris and Joe Biden.
Neil Makhija, executive director of the Indian-American Impact Fund, an advocacy and political action group, said, “A generation of Indian-Americans made this country their home because they knew it meant anything to their children Possible. Today, the daughter of one of those Indian-Americans has proved her faith. ”
He said the Indian-American community paved the way for victory for Biden-Harris by voting in key states such as Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Impact raised $ 1 million to support the voting efforts of Asian and Indian American community voters in key states, including Pennsylvania and Arizona.
He said the organization spent about $ 2 million in each of the major states of Pennsylvania, Arizona, North Carolina and Texas to encourage the community to vote vigorously.
Shekhar Narasimhan, chairman of the Asian American Islander Victory Fund, said, “I never thought that in my lifetime I would see an Indian as a vice-president.”
He said, “We have once again proved that democracy works and we choose people.”
The founder of Indispora promoting Indian-American activism, M.R. Rangaswamy recalled that in 2016 when Biden was the Vice President, his organization held a Diwali function at Biden’s residence.
“We appreciate Biden’s commitment to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement because the environment is an important issue for the Indian-American community,” he said.
Rajwant Singh, chairman of the Sikh Council on Religion and Education, and founder of Ecosikh, said that Sikhs across America have expressed happiness over Biden and Harris being elected.
National Sikh Campaign co-founder Gurwin Singh Ahuja said that the main value of Sikhism is women empowerment and we are excited to see a woman in a high position in America.
He said that Biden has supported the Sikh community on important issues and we are confident that Biden will welcome Sikhs and other communities to the White House to strengthen the country.
