Innings against Cottrell boosted Tewatia’s confidence in IPL 2020: Gavaskar

Mumbai | Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rahul Tewatia’s stellar performance in IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans is like slamming West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell in IPL 2020 in Sharjah. Then Tewatia was playing for Rajasthan Royals. He then hit five sixes in Cottrell’s 18th over and surprised Kings XI Punjab to help the team chase down 224.

Gavaskar feels that the explosive innings of 2020 gave the all-rounder the confidence to subdue any bowler. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 30 April, his 43 not-out effort helped Gujarat Titans win by six wickets with only three balls to spare.

Gavaskar said he nicknamed the 28-year-old cricketer ‘Iceman’ and appreciated Tewatia’s ability to remain calm during tense moments.
