Srinagar | The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Saturday, while the plains of the Union Territory received heavy rains. A meteorological department official said moderate to heavy rains continued in the plains, while Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and other high-altitude places received snowfall.
“Moderate to heavy rains occurred in the plains. The weather conditions are likely to remain the same during the next 24 hours as well,” the official said.
Shopian town of South Kashmir has recorded four to five inches of snowfall in the morning.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for traffic due to landslides and stone-fall in the Ramban area.
The valley has also recorded a drop in the minimum temperature.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 7.3 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.1 degrees Celsius and minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Jammu city recorded a minimum night temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius.
In the Ladakh region, Kargil recorded the season’s first snowfall on Saturday, while the city of Drass recorded 5 inches of snowfall.
