Jhansi accident: An accident took away 10 lives, how did the children’s ward become the ‘graveyard’ of children?

New Delhi, November 16  10 newborns died a painful death due to a fire in the NICU ward of Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, while many children were injured. After this incident, many questions are being raised on the hospital management. It is being alleged that many types of flaws were seen in the hospital during the fire. The situation in the hospital was such that there were no proper arrangements to extinguish the fire and the fire extinguisher (fire extinguishing cylinder) had also expired. Let us know how the fire suddenly broke out in the children’s ward?

If Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor is to be believed, 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward. Late on Friday night, a fire suddenly broke out inside the oxygen concentrator in the NICU ward of the medical college. The cause of the fire is being said to be a short circuit.

If sources are to be believed, as soon as the information about the fire was received, an immediate attempt was made to extinguish it, but due to the high level of oxygen in the NICU ward, the fire became severe. This fire engulfed the entire ward in no time.

Eyewitnesses allege that the safety alarm installed in the hospital did not ring during the fire. However, the people present on the spot saved many children, but 10 newborns lost their lives.

After this accident, the government has ordered a three-tier inquiry. The first investigation of this case will be done at the administrative level which will be done by the Health Department, while the second investigation will be done by the police administration. Along with this, there will also be a magisterial inquiry in the case.

Not only this, politics has also intensified regarding the Jhansi fire incident. Akhilesh Yadav has said that the cause of the fire is being told to be a fire in the ‘oxygen concentrator’. This is a direct case of negligence of medical management and administration or of poor quality oxygen concentrator. Punitive action should be taken against all the responsible people in this case.

UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya raised questions on Akhilesh’s allegations. He said that Akhilesh Yadav had ruined the entire medical system from 2012 to 2017. He will be remembered as a failed Chief Minister in every field. He should be ashamed of making political comments in such matters.
