NDMC Chairman launches the third phase of – “Plastic Lao-Mask Pao” kiosk at Charkha Museum in Connaught Place.

New Delhi: In the series of the celebrations of 75 Years of Independence as “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, on theme of –“Reduce, Reuse & Recycle  & Say No To Single Use Plastic”, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Shri Dharmendra, inaugurated third phase of “Plastic Lao- Mask Pao” stall at Charkha Museum in Connaught Place, New Delhi today morning.

The initiative of “Plastic Lao-Mask Pao” operated in association with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in a kiosk where citizens can come and deposit their plastic waste in exchange of masks and cloth bag (Thela).

The Chairman and Secretary of NDMC distributed the mask and cloth beg (Thaila) to the Safai Sewak in exchange of plastic waste collected by them. Chairman, Secretary and Sr. Officers of NDMC were also write their Plastic pledge on the signboard put up there.

Inaugurating the third phase at Connaught Place, the Chairperson- NDMC said that he is satisfied with the results of the previous two phases of this unique campaign, NDMC is extending it to the markets and commercial areas of New Delhi. So we could collect the plastic waste to make it reusable by recycling it.

The first phase collected 7,568 kg while in the second phase 10,680 kg plastic waste was collected and in exchange of this plastic waste the stalls provided 5600 Cloth Bags (Thelas) in the first phase while 3500 cloth bags and 4200 masks respectively in Connaught Place and Khan Market stalls.

The Chairman, NDMC appealed to the visitors, customers and residents of New Delhi area to reduce the use of single use plastic in day to day life activities, therefore Civic body could achieve the target of single use plastic free city. He also urged the RWAs, MTAs and NGOs to join the initiatives launched by the civic body to eliminate the plastic waste from the streets, Lanes, Roads and other public places and exchange it by getting cloth bags or thelas and masks.

He further informed that NDMC is organising various awareness programmes in market and residential areas on behavioral change to reduce, reuse and recycle the plastic and say No to single use plastic in New Delhi area. The NDMC area’s Safai sewak will also visit door to door of shops in market areas to create awareness about this initiative.

On the occasion, Secretary-NDMC Dr. B.M Mishra, Senior Officers of NDMC, representatives of Centre for Environment Education were present.
