Tokyo| The US women’s basketball team defeated hosts Japan to win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. This is the seventh consecutive Olympic title for America. America’s men have also won Olympic gold this year. American women have won nine gold medals since the sport’s inclusion in the Olympics in 1976.
The final score of the final match at the Saitama Super Arena was 90-75 in favor of America. In which Brittany Griner scored 30 points. Brenna Stewart scored 14 points while Aja Wilson scored 19 points.
For Japan, Maki Tagadi scored 17 and Nako Motohashi scored 16 points.
The US team has been a consistent Olympic champion since 1996. Earlier in 1984 and 1988 also his name was Swarna. He won silver in 1976 and bronze in 1992. The US boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
Japan may have lost to the US in the final match, but the silver medal in its share is also historic. This is Japan’s first Olympic medal in basketball.
