New Delhi, January 25. The Delhi government celebrated Republic Day with great pomp at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi on Saturday. The chief guest of the program, Delhi CM Atishi, hoisted the national flag on the eve of Republic Day and congratulated the entire country including Delhi. On this occasion, she said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has provided great relief to the people of Delhi by providing free electricity, water, education, health and other services. The Delhi government spends 25 percent of its budget on providing good education to children. Electricity is available 24 hours a day in the entire country. There were no power cuts even during the scorching heat last year. Today 11 lakh women in Delhi are taking advantage of free travel every day, which has increased their participation in the economy. In the last 10 years, we have built 38 flyovers and also rapidly developed roads, metro and buses. Today we all pledge to empower every woman in Delhi, provide good education-health facilities and employment to everyone. Atishi said that today is the day to remember the freedom fighters who gave their lives for the freedom of the country. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar gave the Constitution to our country after India’s independence. Today is the day to remember those great people who dreamt of a free India and sacrificed their lives for that dream.
When India was ruled by the British, India used to be very different. The people of India did not have rights. The people of India did not have the right to choose their representatives and we did not even have the right to put forward our point of view. The biggest thing was that we did not even have rights over the resources of India. CM Atishi said that for thousands of years it was said that India is a golden bird. There was no other country in the world with soil, water, forests and mountains like India. But when the British ruled, these resources were not used for the people of India. The British used to take these resources out of our country. The children of the country did not get good education, people did not get good treatment and employment, because the people of India did not choose the government of Indians. Our freedom fighters fought for their rights. Youngsters of 18-20 years of age came out of the homes of India to fight for freedom. What a difficult time that must have been. In front was the empire of the British, about which it was said that the sun never sets in this empire.
The empire of the British was spread from one corner of the world to the other. But still the freedom fighters of our country had the zeal and passion, on the strength of which they fought for independence. Even today, thinking about those brave soldiers gives me goosebumps. CM Atishi said that Bhagat Singh was only 23 years old when he happily sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country and was hanged. Bhagat Singh never thought about himself. He only thought about the country of India. Similarly, thousands of youths did not think about the future of themselves and their families. They only thought about the country. When Mahatma Gandhi walked on the path of non-violence, he did not think about what would happen to his body. He thought about the country. When Lala Lajpat Rai went to protest against the Simon Commission, he thought about the country, not himself. When Chandrashekhar Azad lost his life at the age of 25 while fighting the British, he still thought only about the freedom of the country and the coming generations. These are only those freedom fighters whose names you and I know. They are written about in books. But thousands of young people, women, men and the elderly came out of their homes and sacrificed their lives so that every citizen of India can get equal rights in the future.
Every person in India should have the right to choose his government, and the resources of India should be used for the children, women and the elderly of India. Those millions of people made sacrifices for us. CM Atishi said that after the independence of India, the Constitution of India was written in the Constituent Assembly under the leadership of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. He wrote the Constitution with the dream that we will build a country where every person will have equal rights. We will build a country where there will be no discrimination, where every person will get equal rights in democracy, and where there will be no big or small, rich or poor. Baba Saheb Ambedkar and those people dreamt of this, who made our country a democracy and republic and dedicated the Constitution of India to the country. I am proud that today the Delhi government is working hard day and night to fulfill the dreams of freedom fighters and Baba Saheb Ambedkar. This hard work is our responsibility. It is our responsibility to fulfill the dreams of Baba Saheb and freedom fighters, because hundreds and thousands of people have sacrificed with them, whose names we do not even know. Only by fulfilling their dreams can we repay the debt of their sacrifices. Atishi said that Baba Saheb had dreamt by writing the great Constitution that every child of the country would be equal. Whether he is from the richest of the rich or the poorest of the poor, every child should get good education. For the last 10 years, the Delhi government has been working to fulfill this dream. There was a time when the condition of government schools in Delhi was very bad. When a child from a common and poor family went to study in a government school, he got a lot of hardships.
