One notorious snatcher nabbed by team ps Shalimar Bagh

New Delhi: With the arrest of one notorious snatcher namely, Himanshu Mishra @ Sonu aged- 26 yrs S/o Kamlesh Mishra R/o Budh Vihar, Delhi, Staff of PS Shalimar Bagh solved 04 snatching cases including a snatching case with a Govt. teacher and recovered 02 snatched gold chains (one with a diamond pendant). A scooty used in the commission of crimes also found abandoned in Punjabi Bagh, which he took from his friend who also took commission in return. Accused committed snatchings while riding scooty by one hand & committed snatchings by another hand. He committed snatchings to impress his female friends by presenting them expensive gifts. He found to be a habitual & active criminal, previously found involved in 11 cases of robbery, snatching & theft.

Two snatching cases were registered in PS Shalimar Bagh on the same day i.e. 08.04.2022 in which complainants described similar incident, vehicle of offence & details of culprit.

In case registered vide FIR No. 389/22 u/s 356/379 IPC, a lady complainant aged 49 years stated that she works in a govt. school and while she was going towards east Shalimar bagh at around 3pm, a person suddenly came on scooty & snatched her gold chain having a diamond pendant in it and fled away.

In another case registered vide FIR No. 391/22 u/s 356/379 IPC, complainant aged 30 years stated that he works in Genpact India Company and while he was going towards his home after shopping from AL- market Shalimar Bagh, a person suddenly came on scooty & snatched his gold chain and fled away.

Considering the sensitivity of the cases & nature of incidents, a team led by Inspr. Sudhir Sharma, SHO/ PS Adarsh Nagar comprising of SI Sachin Dhama, HC Jang Bahadur, HC Anil & Ct. Sanjeev was constituted under the close supervision of Sh Swadesh Kumar, ACP/ Shalimar Bagh and overall supervision of the undersigned. The team was briefed properly and tasked to nab the culprit and solve the cases at the earliest.

During the course of investigation, CCTV footages at & around the place of incidents were thoroughly examined and vehicle of offence i.e. a scooty was identified, however a digit of its registration number was missing. It was difficult to trace the ownership of the vehicle. Thorough search was made & many scooties having similar number were verified. As per description of the culprit, sources were deployed to gather local intelligence. Based on the inputs & gathered local intelligence, a credible information about the culprit was received and police team immediately laid down a trap near Bus stand, Samaypur Badli. On pointing out by the informer, a suspected person was nabbed who was identified as Himanshu Mishra @ Sonu aged- 26 yrs S/o Kamlesh Mishra R/o JJ colony, Shakoorpur, Delhi. During his cursory search, one golden chain was recovered from his possession, which was found snatched vide FIR No. 391/22 u/s 356/379 IPC PS Shalimar Bagh.

 During his sustained interrogation, he confessed his involvement in several snatching cases and on his instance, one more golden chain having diamond pendant was also recovered from his home in Budh Vihar, Delhi. The same was snatched vide FIR No. 389/22 u/s 356/379 IPC PS Shalimar Bagh.

The accused has further disclosed that he had borrowed vehicle of offence i.e. scooty bearing no. DL8S CL 7067 from his friend, for committing snatchings and in return, his friend took commission also. He further disclosed that after committing the snatchings on 08.04.22, he had parked the scooty at Punjabi Bagh, as per advice of his friend who later on lodged a false e-FIR in PS Adarsh Nagar regarding theft of his scooty. During further investigation it has been learnt that the said scooty was found abandoned in the area of PS Punjabi Bagh by the staff of PS Punjabi Bagh and it was deposited in Malkhana PS Punjabi Bagh u/s 102 CrPC.

The accused has further disclosed his involvement in another snatching case in which he snatched a gold chain from a lady travelling in a e-rickshaw on 15.03.22. The same was cross verified from the complainant regarding which case was registered vide FIR No. 307/22 u/s 356/379 IPC PS Shalimar Bagh. He kept the snatched chain in that case with his friend who used to give him his scooty for committing crimes. Further efforts are being made to trace his friend, who is absconding presently from his home.

During further investigation, the same accused was found involved in another snatching case of PS Maurya Enclave registered vide FIR No. 190/22 u/s 356/379 IPC in which he snatched a gold chain of a lady. Further efforts are being made to recover the snatched gold chain in that case.

In all these cases, the said accused committed snatchings while riding scooty by one hand & committed snatchings by another hand. He also disclosed that he committed snatchings to impress his female friends by presenting them expensive gifts. He found to be a habitual & active criminal, previously found involved in 10 cases of robbery, snatching & theft.

Further efforts are being made to trace their possible involvements in other cases also.
