Operation ‘sajag’ yielding amazing results in north-west district

New Delhi: Special combing – cum – area domination exercises and intensive patrolling/ checking at pickets have landed a heavy blow on the activities of the criminals & anti-social elements.

Total 8,006 criminals/ anti-social elements were arrested including 126 robbers, 168 snatchers, 49 burglars, 367 bad characters, 141 auto-lifters, 306 thieves etc. Since the launch of this operation.

 Keeping with the worthy CP’s directives for Police domination of streets in order to curb the incidents of street crime like snatching, robbery, auto-lifting etc., North- West District Police has made concerted efforts in this regard by way of strengthening its static and surprise pickets, enhanced group and motorcycle patrolling in the area and is also conducting special combing operations on regular intervals for controlling street crimes and apprehending criminals en masse.

North-West District is a mixed and densely populated area having diverse socio-economic background. It includes many JJ clusters like WPIA Ashok Vihar, JJ Colony Wazirpur, Shakurpur, Haiderpur, Jahangir Puri & Lal Bagh etc., sensitive areas like Sangam Park, Shah Aalam Bandh Road, B&C block, Jahangir Puri etc., Industrial areas like Wazirpur Industrial area, GTK road, Lawrence road, Udhyog Nagar Mahindra Park etc. The largest fruit and vegetable mandi of Asia also lies in its jurisdiction. Inner & Outer ring roads and GTK road are two major highways connecting and passing through this district.

 

Such diverse socio-economic populace, dwelling units and institutions give rise to number of challanges with crime being the top of the chart priority to be taken care of by Police, therefore in order to curb the incidents of street crime like snatching, robbery, auto-lifting etc., North-West District Police launched “Operation Sajag” on 4th October 2021 and strengthened its daily static pickets by equipping the staff with a wireless set and big weapons. Patrolling was also enhanced by adding more patrol bikes in the area for controlling street crimes and apprehending criminals. ‘Operation Sajag’ focussed on dark & vulnerable stretches, highways viz. Ring Road, Inner Ring Road & GT Karnal Road, slum & cluster areas especially along the railway lines, market places, parks, malls etc.

Various special combing – cum – area domination exercises were conducted which included intensive patrolling, alert and effective picketing, surveillance & preventive action for crackdown on crime and criminals to keep streets free from crime. The strategies adopted under operation SAJAG, includes comprehensive highway patrolling with special focus on night patrolling, Foot & Group patrolling, Dynamic deployment with focus on specific areas, GPS monitored vehicle patrolling, Installation of area domination booths, Permanent & surprise picketing, Outcome oriented tasking of picket and patrolling staff. Special attention towards Preventive action against listed and budding criminals. Surveillance over listed/budding/Jail-bail released criminals by opening history sheets and tagging division and beat staff with them.  Main focus is on detection of source of fire-arms, drugs, illicit liquor & receivers of stolen property.  Intelligence based surprise raids & combing operations conducted in the district along the railways lines, in association with railway police & para-military personnel.

Since its inception, Operation Sajag has not only yielded amazing results but also has hit a telling blow on unsocial elements/criminals and has sent shivers down their spine. As a resultant a total 8,006 criminals/ anti-social elements have been arrested including the below mentioned accused/suspected persons who were arrested/detained:-

5471 persons were arrested under preventive measures u/s 107/151 CrPC, including 127 Bad Characters, 821 Budding Criminals & 4523 anti-social elements.

284 persons were arrested u/s 40(A) Excise Act for consumption of liquor at public places in violation of Excise Act.

126 Robbers, 168 Snatchers, 49 Burglars, 141 Auto-lifters and 306 thieves arrested.

90684 suspicious persons were interrogated & verified u/s 65 DP Act.

5269 unclaimed vehicles seized u/s 66 DP Act.

3644 Stranger Roll (Parcha 12) issued.

10192 Bad Characters & History Sheeters were checked.

352 Bad Characters & criminals were arrested U/s 110(G) CrPC.

419 suspicious persons were arrested U/s 109 CrPC as a preventive measure.

63 persons were arrested U/s 92/93/97 CrPC for creating nuisance at public places.

114 accused persons arrested under Arms Act and 91 knives & 23 fire- arms recovered.

15 Bad Characters & 43 budding criminals were arrested under Arms Act.

244 persons arrested under Gambling Act and Rs. 33,55,780 recovered.

24 receivers of stolen properties were arrested u/s 411 IPC.

288 snatched/robbed/stolen mobile phones recovered.

164 accused persons arrested under Excise Act and 7553 bottles of illicit liquor & 7 vehicles recovered.

23 accused persons arrested under NDPS Act and 48.49 kg of ganja & 13.8 gms of herion/smack recovered.

1164 persons booked u/s 188 IPC.

4925 covid challans issued for the violation of covid related guidelines.

Operation Sajag and other concerted effective policing methods adopted by North-West District police has resulted in a sharp decline 24% in the PCR Calls. Also, there is a surge of preventive action by 47%, paving way for a 33% decline in street crime. More such domination  excises and combing operations are in the offing to ensure safe, secure and crime free public spaces for the citizens of the area, to keep a check on criminals and to prevent any untoward incident in the area for the safety & security of the residents.
