Oscar 2022: A brief silence for Ukraine at the Oscars

Los Angeles| The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences observed a brief silence due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The organizers extended their support to the people of Ukraine through slides with a message of support. The message on the slides read, “We want a moment of silence to show our support for the people of Ukraine who are currently facing aggression, conflict and prejudice within their borders.”

According to Sandesh Ku, “While the film is an important opportunity for us to express our humanity in times of conflict, the reality is that millions of families in Ukraine are in need of food, medical care, clean water and emergency services. Resources scarce. and we can collectively do more as a global community.”
