In a world where love seems to be based on screens and swipes, Param Sundari is a romance based on the beauty of following your heart. While the digital world may have put the world in our palms, it has also distanced us from ourselves time and again, this film reminds us what is most important to us – true love and relationships! This film depicts the truest form of love.
At a time when love is being measured by compatibility ratings on dating apps, this film sincerely and honestly reminds us that no algorithm, AI or modern app can measure chemistry, timing or true connection.
From the very first look of Param Sundari, you know that something special is in store for you. It has a special magic that doesn’t feel artificial. When acting, direction, writing and all the other techniques work together, something special is created. In today’s world of notifications, it is very rare to find such a relaxing and wonderful experience.
Director Tushar Jalota’s film is not just a story, but a living, beating heart on screen. It is like stepping into a dream that is woven of memories and emotions. ‘Param Sundari’ is a relaxing experience that always feels new and fresh. Emotions cannot be faked, they can be felt and it is a complete experience of emotions, colours, moods and connecting with each other.
The film is a North-South love story, where two very different people meet with the help of an app. It is made even better by a great screenplay, a great pair and an emotional soundtrack.
The story revolves around Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a sharp, tech-savvy businessman from Delhi. Param dreams of investing in an app that will help people find their “life partner”.
When Param’s father (Sanjay Kapoor), fed up with his antics, challenges him to find a life partner in a month through his own app, we meet Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a simple and bindaas Malayali girl whose simplicity and honesty cannot be replicated in an app. What follows is an interesting and surprisingly profound exploration of digital love versus true feelings.
The love between the two leads is what brings the film to life. What starts as an app soon turns into a mesmerizing mix of emotions, love, trust and heart that is impossible to control, only to be felt.
Sidharth Malhotra brings life to the character of Param. His character is very charming, his comedic timing is perfect and he brings a lot of depth to his character. However, it is Janhvi Kapoor who wins hearts with her strongest performance of her career as Sundari. Her acting is strong and she pays attention to every detail. She has not just played this character but has lived it. Be it the accent, the clothes or the demeanor, she has done everything with utmost ease. This is a memorable performance in Janhvi’s career, which proves her to be a great actress.
Param and Sundari have amazing chemistry, which starts with a hesitant spark and slowly turns into a deep friendship. Their love is both new and age-old. It is a love that today’s youth living on social media will understand very well.
The supporting cast also brings life to the film. Sanjay Kapoor makes us laugh with his brilliant comic timing and effortless style even when the situation gets too serious. Their funny expressions and one-liners add a tinge of comedy to this serious drama. Manjot Singh’s character is also very funny, Inayat Verma wins the hearts of the audience, and Siddharth Shankar Sundari’s performances along with Renji Panikar make the world of the film very real.
The film is a visual treat. From the vibrant startup culture of Delhi to the serene and green landscapes of Kerala, the film travels a lot of emotional and geographical distance. The production design is top-notch and the costumes of the actors (especially Janhvi’s beautiful saris and Param’s simple yet stylish look) reflect their characters effortlessly.
The music of the film is superb, which is the emotional backbone of the film. With six excellent songs, the music of the film brings life to every romantic moment. Be it the playful ‘Pardesiya’, the charming ‘Bheegi Sari’, the heart-touching ‘Sun Mere Yaar Ve’ and ‘Chaand Kaagaz Ka’, every song fits just right. The title song ‘Sundari Ke Pyaar Mein’ is already a chartbuster.
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the film’s biggest strength is that it honestly tells the story of a generation that has left love to algorithms. The film doesn’t preach, but rather offers a very tender experience of love and being in love. The experience reminds us that love isn’t something you swipe or add to a cart and find, but it is actually a complicated, risky and heartfelt human emotion.
Param Sundari isn’t just a film, it’s a chance to fall in love again!
