PDP leader released after Mehbooba gets an invitation for June 24 meeting

Srinagar| The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday released her uncle and senior PDP leader Sartaj Madani from house arrest, hours after she received an invitation from the former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to attend the all-party meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24. gave. Madani was detained along with another senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar on December 21, 2020.

Madani was earlier placed under house arrest for three days by the police in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara town. He was then sent to the MLA Hostel in Srinagar, where he remained under house arrest till Saturday.

Naeem was released from house arrest but was to remain under house arrest till May 12, 2021.

A PDP spokesperson confirmed Madhu’s release.

Sources said here that Madani’s release came after Delhi’s invitation to attend the meeting to be held in New Delhi on June 24.

Sources believe that the meeting is the first step by the Prime Minister to ensure an inclusive election in J&K, which can be completed by the Delimitation Commission anytime.

The tenure of the commission ended in March this year, but it was extended till March 2022.

Top sources told that the Delimitation Commission may submit its recommendations long before the end of its extended term.
