Polling stations in Delhi to be converted into vaccination centers: Kejriwal

New Delhi | There is a tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Center over the Delhi government’s door-to-door ration distribution scheme. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to use his flagship scheme for a vaccination campaign in the national capital.

Addressing a digital press conference on Monday, Kejriwal announced the launch of a mass vaccination campaign, named ‘Jahan Vote, Vaccination There’.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that polling stations in Delhi will be converted into vaccination centers and where they vote, booth level officers (BLOs) will go door-to-door to vaccinate people above 45 years of age as part of the immunization drive. Will book

For this, the process has been started including training of BLOs, who will visit residential colonies along with a civil defense volunteer and book a slot for vaccination. Along with this, he will appeal to the citizens of Delhi to go where they vote and get the Kovid vaccine. Kejriwal gave this information during the press conference.

70 municipal wards will be covered every week during the four-week vaccination campaign, which aims to give the first dose to all citizens aged 45 and above.

As of now, only people above 45 years of age will be covered under this scheme, as the Delhi government does not have vaccine stock available for the age group of 18-44.

Kejriwal said that soon door-to-door awareness campaign will be started in Delhi. The first phase of the campaign will start in 70 wards and we have targeted to give the first dose of COVID vaccine to all citizens above 45 years of age. People in the age group of 18-44 will also be included in the scheme after the Center makes the vaccine available to the youth.

There are around 280 municipal wards in all the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi.

The Chief Minister said, “We have seen that people in the age group of 45 years and above are not coming to the vaccination centers set up by the Delhi government and the vaccines are not being fully utilized. So now the vaccination centers will be shifted to the polling stations. Delhi government is providing free vaccination in government schools apart from hospitals and other health centers.

Kejriwal said, “People above 45 years of age are not coming to the vaccination centers themselves. So, now we will visit their homes.”

He further added, “Out of 57 lakh people in the age group above 45 years, 27 lakh have been given the first dose of the vaccine. Now they will be given the anti-Covid vaccine at polling booths.”

However, launching a door-to-door vaccination campaign is being seen as a political move by Kejriwal in view of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections due next year.
