Railways suspend wrestler Sushil Kumar accused of murder

New Delhi| Two-time Olympian Sushil Kumar, who was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday in connection with the death of wrestler Sagar Dhankhar, has been suspended till further orders from the Railways. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.

Deepak Kumar, the spokesperson for Northern Railway, said that Sushil Kumar has been suspended from the job in Northern Railway, as the criminal offense is being investigated against him. The spokesman said that he has been suspended for the next order.

Kumar was arrested after absconding for 18 days following the death of budding wrestler Dhankhar.

According to Delhi Police officials, Kumar traveled to Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana for 18 days.

He was finally arrested from the Mundka area of ​​Delhi on Sunday morning when he came to fetch some cash and also borrowed scooty from a national-level player. The Delhi Police had also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on Kumar and Rs 50,000 on his associate Ajay.

Kumar was remanded in custody for six days by a Delhi court.

On May 18, Kumar filed an anticipatory bail plea in New Delhi’s Rohini court, but it was rejected by the court.

On 4 May, two groups of wrestlers clashed at the Chhatrasal Stadium, leading to the death of 23-year-old Dhankhar, as he was injured during a brawl. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was also issued against Kumar by a Delhi court.

The Delhi Police had also issued a lookout notice for Kumar, who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
