ANKARA| The death toll in the strong earthquake in Turkey’s western province of Izmir has increased to 114, while 1,035 people have been injured. Disaster management officials informed about this on Wednesday. According to the Xinhua news agency, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in its statement that 137 of the injured are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
AFAD chief Mehmet Gulloeoglu announced on his Twitter account that rescue operations in all 17 collapsed buildings have been completed.
Earlier, the authority had said that 107 people have been taken out of the rubble alive.
The Mayor of Izmir has launched a campaign called ‘One Rent One Home’, which aims to provide homes for the homeless people living in earthquakes.
