Under operation “viram” team ps ip estate solved an incident of highway robbery within few hours by arresting a gang of car hijackers /highway robbers

New Delhi: On 11.05.2023 around 06.00 A.M, a PCR call was received at PS IP Estate that one person has been found lying injured on Vikas Marg. On receipt of the PCR call, Police team reached the spot and found one person lying near Vikas Marg, service road towards Delhi Secretariat. The injured was shifted to LNJP hospital for treatment. The victim Umesh Kumar r/o Indirapuram, UP aged about 45 years told that two boys had hired his taxi/Ertiga Car from New Ashok Nagar to ITO. On reaching near ITO, they asked to stop the vehicle and suddenly one of the boys who was sitting on rear seat caught hold of him from back with the help of belt and other attacked his face with knife. After robbing him of his mobile and purse, they pushed him on the road side and escaped with his vehicle/car. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 125/23 u/section 392/394/411/34 IPC was registered in the incident and investigation taken up.

To solve the incident of highway robber/carjacking, a dedicated team consisting of HC Sandeep Kumar, CT Deepak Kumar, CT Rajpal & CT Ashish under supervision of Insp. Sanjeev Kumar SHO/IP Estate was constituted. The victim driver told that robbed Ertiga Car is fitted with GPS system and the access of that is available with the owner. Owner Mr. Narender Pal Singh was contacted who provided the link of the GPS installed for the live location of the said Ertiga Car. The police team checked the live location of the Ertiga car which was found near New Ashok Nagar. The team reached at above mentioned location and searched the area. After sincere efforts Ertiga Car No. UP14GT9594 was found parked near Metro Pillar No. 210, New Ashok Nagar. The owner also reached there and identified his Ertiga Car.

To apprehend the culprits a trap was laid in the area a trap plan for apprehending the accused and the staff kept waiting at that site for hours. During vigil movement, the police team noticed suspicious movements of two persons near the vehicle and they kept observing the developments. After few hours, four persons came and open the vehicle with the help of key, the police team surrounded them and asked to surrender. Surprised by police presence, they tried to run away, but overpowered by the police team and apprehended.

On enquiry their name and address came to know as:

  1. Shamu Chauhan R/o. New Ashok Nagar, Age-18 years.
  2. Arun Kumar R/o. New Ashok Nagar, Age-23 years.
  3. MMMM S/o. BBBBB R/o. New Ashok Nagar, Age-16 years.
  4. AAAA S/o. MMMM R/o. New Ashok Kumar, Delhi, Age-16 years

On their cursory search one knife was recovered from MMMMMMM and robbed mobile phone of the victim was recovered from possession of Arun Kumar.

On interrogation, they confessed for their crime and disclosed that with the intention to robe the vehicle and its driver, they had hired the Ertiga Car from Ashok Nagar Metro Station for ITO. On reaching near ITO, they asked the driver to stop the vehicle at a secluded place. MMMM stabbed the victim with knife on his face and robbed his mobile phone and Arun caught hold of him from back.  After robbing the driver of his vehicle and mobile phone they escaped away by dumping him near roadside bushes near Vikas Mag.

The sustained interrogation of accused revealed that they used to hire the car and used to dump the driver at lonely place after robbery. They also disclosed that they were planning to use the robbed vehicle in robbing of a businessman in the trans Yamuna area.
