Mangaluru| Mangaluru police said on Wednesday that the Karnataka police arrested four members of the inter-state gang involved in smuggling cannabis and also seized 200 kg of banned substance worth about Rs 20 lakh. According to the Mangaluru police, those arrested were identified as Mohammad Farooq (24) and Mohiuddin Nawaz (34) hailing from Kasargod in Kerala, while Mohammad Ansar (23) hailed from Mudipu in Mangaluru. Syed Mohammed (31) hails from Kushalnagar in the Kodagu district of Karnataka.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar told reporters that the Moodbidri police were investigating a robbery case and after arresting the culprits, one of them disclosed about the smuggling of hemp in huge quantities from Visakhapatnam in Andhra.
The commissioner said, “On the basis of this information, the Moodbidre police started a search operation and kept a tight vigil at all entry points. Earlier we were reported to have come in such a large quantity in a fish supply truck to the state. But when we Stopping a luxurious car, the police was able to confiscate only 60 kg of hemp. On seeing the police, the driver of this car revealed that they had divided the total packets of hemp into other vehicles in Hassan and that vehicle also in an hour’s time. Are coming. ”
“As per the information received, a lorry car came near, when we seized the lorry, about 157 kg of hemp packets were hidden in this lorry,” he said.
The commissioner said that the gang intended to sell such a large quantity of hemp to the peddlers of Uppala in Mangaluru and most of the consignment was going towards Kasargod in Kerala.
The police have registered a case and are being investigated.
