New Delhi| An Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiri district on Wednesday, killing India’s first Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others on board. Indian Air Force announced this. In a tweet, the Indian Air Force said, “It is with deep regret that it has been learned that General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 other people on board the aircraft died in this unfortunate accident.”
The CDS was on his way to deliver a lecture at Defense Services Staff College, Wellington.
The helicopter with a total of 14 people took off from Sulur airport near Coimbatore and was on its way to Coonoor.
According to eyewitnesses, the plane crashed into a tree just minutes before landing and caught fire. Many people got injured in this accident.
