Prayagraj (UP)| In a shocking incident, gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by assailants in Prayagraj on Saturday night in the presence of police and media. Ateeq and his brother were shot when they were taken for medical examination at Colvin Hospital. Both died on the spot.
According to reports, while the media persons were talking to him, Ateeq was shot in the head from close range.
Both the brothers were handcuffed at the time of the incident. The incident took place on the day when Atiq’s son Asad was handed over to Prayagraj today after an encounter in Jhansi on Thursday. According to reports, three youths, two of whom have been arrested, joined a group of journalists who were talking to Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, then committed the crime.
After Ateeq could complete his answer to the question, one of the assailants pointed a pistol at Ateeq’s head and shot him, while the other two assailants opened fire on the brother. After the brothers fell to the ground, the attackers surrendered with their hands raised.
