Imphal| An earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale hit the mountainous Shirui area of Manipur’s Ukhrul district late Saturday evening. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) gave this information. The NCS said tremors were felt in the hilly areas of the Ukhrul district, which shares a border with Myanmar.
Due to this earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 31 km from the surface, the residents there got scared and came out of their homes.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Frequent earthquakes in the mountainous northeastern states, especially Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, have worried the authorities, forcing them to build earthquake-resistant structures.
Seismologists consider the Northeast region to be the sixth most earthquake-prone region in the world.
