Baramati, January 28 Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash on Wednesday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that all six passengers on board, including Ajit Pawar, were killed.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati to attend a public meeting amid the ongoing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. His plane crashed while landing near Baramati. The accident occurred around 9 am.
It is reported that the plane lost control and crashed while landing at an airport in Baramati. The plane caught fire after the crash. A total of six people, including Ajit Pawar and two crew members, were on board the plane. According to reports, no one on board survived the accident.
Images from the scene showed fire and smoke, plane debris, and ambulances carrying the injured to nearby hospitals. People at the crash site were trying to provide assistance in every possible way. According to the Pune Superintendent of Police (SP), three bodies have been taken to Baramati Medical College.
A team of DGCA officials has currently arrived at the crash site. Emergency services and senior security officials are also present at the scene.
NCP Working President Praful Patel, NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s family (wife Sunetra Pawar and son Parth Pawar) were in Delhi. It is reported that Praful Patel and Ajit Pawar’s families have left for Baramati from Delhi.
Ajit Pawar, 66, was a veteran Maharashtra politician and nephew of NCP founder Sharad Pawar. He served as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in the Mahayuti government led by Devendra Fadnavis (Chief Minister) and Eknath Shinde (Deputy Chief Minister). He was the national president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
