Puducherry| Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday urged the people of Puducherry to give the BJP a chance. He promised that if the BJP comes to power, the party will make this Union Territory the jewel of India. Addressing a public meeting in Karaikal, he expressed confidence that the NDA government in Puducherry will be formed under the leadership of the BJP in the upcoming elections.
Two days after the Election Commission announced the election schedule, Amit Shah addressed his first election rally in Puducherry.
Elections for the 30-member assembly are scheduled in a single phase on 6 April.
He said that in terms of unemployment, Puducherry is at the top in the country with unemployment at 75 percent. He promised that if the BJP came to power, it would bring the unemployment rate below 40 percent.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the slogan of making Puducherry the ‘Best’ (BEST), which is synonymous with trade, education, spiritual and tourism hub.
Shah promised to supply drinking water through taps in every household. He said that the youth of Puducherry are smart and hardworking. The Prime Minister will give them a platform to network with youth from all over the world.
Criticizing former Chief Minister Narayan Sami, the Union Home Minister said that he is more interested in serving the Gandhi family and touching his feet than serving the people of Puducherry.
He said that some Congress leaders have alleged that BJP in Puducherry toppled his government. “I want to tell them that you have made a man a chief minister who lies before his leader. If there is any best award for lying then it should be given to Narayan Sami.
He alleged that for merit in Congress There is no place. He reminded that the Congress contested the 2016 election under the leadership of Namasivayam, but when it came to electing the Chief Minister, he chose Narayanasamy as the party leadership wanted someone who touched his feet. There can be no greater deception with people than this.
He blamed the Narayan Sami government for corruption. He said that Rs 15,000 crore sent by the Center was diverted to another item and the money was sent to Delhi in the service of Gandhi family.
