Dr. Harsh Vardhan reviews preparations for Covid at RML Hospital

New Delhi | Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan visited Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Friday to take stock of preparations for the treatment related to the treatment of severe Covid patients.

He interacted with the beneficiaries and those with AEFI post-vaccination monitoring at the hospital’s immunization center. He assured everyone that the entire process is smooth. Individuals monitored for AEFI reported that they did not feel any difficulty after vaccination.

The minister also interacted with health workers and expressed their deep gratitude for their immense commitment to work during the epidemic. He also briefed recent decisions to increase the medical workforce, which is likely to reduce his workload manifold.

Harshvardhan reviewed the availability of beds in detail, including oxygen support and ICU ventilator beds.

Medical Superintendent, Dr. A. K. Singh Rana told them about the steps being taken to increase the availability of beds to meet the immediate needs of Covid patients.

RML Hospital initially had 172 Covid beds in two dedicated buildings of which 158 were Oxygen beds and 14 ICU beds. The Covid Suspicious Block, which admitted patients on the basis of symptoms, had 44 other beds, 30 of which had oxygen-rich beds and 14 were ICU beds.

Following the recent increase in Corona cases, the number of Kovid beds has been increased to 215 by adding 33 new Covid Oxygen beds and 10 ICU beds to treat people.

The hospital administration also informed of the plan to add 200 other covid beds as per the suggestion of the Union Health Minister, soon after completing the rehabilitation of non-Covid patients, development of the donation and doffing area and reorganization of the currently running manpower. All these beds will be provided with oxygen support.

Harshvardhan also inspected the Oxygen Generation Plant set up by DRDO. The hospital has two liquid oxygen chambers, one with a capacity of 12 MT and the other with a capacity of 10 MT.
