Case registered against AAP leaders for protesting at BJP headquarters without permission

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday registered a case against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders after they led a protest led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal towards the BJP headquarters here without permission. This information was provided by officers.

Police said Section 144 of CrPC was imposed near the BJP headquarters on Sunday following Kejriwal’s call for a protest march as the AAP had not sought any permission to go to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

“A case has been registered at Indraprastha Estate police station under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant),” a senior police officer said.

On Sunday, AAP workers led by Kejriwal marched towards the BJP headquarters and sat in front of a 10-foot barricade put up by the police to stop them.

However, the protest ended after just 20 minutes and all the leaders including CM Kejriwal returned to the party office.

Ahead of the protest march, Kejriwal had accused the BJP of running “Operation Jhadu” to suppress AAP.

Delhi Police had deployed a large number of officers and paramilitary personnel to prevent any incident and maintain order during the protests.
