Fifth phase of voting ends, elections held on 428 seats so far

New Delhi :  Voting for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections ended on Monday evening. With this, elections have been completed on 428 Lok Sabha seats. Earlier, elections were held on 379 seats in the four phases. Voting took place in 49 parliamentary constituencies in the fifth phase. In this phase, elections were held on popular seats like Lucknow, Rae Bareli and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and North Mumbai, South Mumbai in Maharashtra.

In the fifth phase, 56.68 percent voting took place till 5 pm. The final figures have not been released yet by the Election Commission. In this phase, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was contesting elections from Lucknow. Till 5 pm, 49.88 percent voting took place here. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi was in the fray from Rae Bareli seat, where 56.26 percent voting was recorded till 5 pm. Union Minister Piyush Goyal was the candidate from Mumbai North, where 46.91 percent voting was recorded till 5 pm.

Smriti Irani is contesting from Amethi seat. There was 52.68 percent voting till 5 pm. If we talk about Kaiserganj seat of Uttar Pradesh, till the time the figures came in, there was 53.92 percent voting. The 8 states/union territories where voting took place in the 5th phase included Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Voting began at 7 am and ended at 6 pm. In this phase, elderly voters also came out in large numbers to vote. There were more than 7.81 lakh registered voters above 85 years of age in the fifth phase. There were 24,792 voters above 100 years of age and 7.03 lakh physically handicapped (PWD) voters.

About 66.95 percent voting took place in the first four phases of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Around 45 crore 10 lakh persons have voted during the first four phases. After the completion of the fifth phase of voting on Monday, now only two phases of Lok Sabha elections are left. The sixth phase of voting is to be held on May 25 and the last phase of voting is to be held on June 1. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.

Talking about the state-wise voting figures, till 5 pm the highest turnout of 73 percent was recorded in West Bengal, while the lowest turnout was recorded in Maharashtra. By 5 pm here, 48.66 percent voters had cast their votes.
