CBI raid on Mahua Moitra’s father’s residence

Kolkata. The CBI began raids on Saturday morning at the South Kolkata residence of DL Moitra, father of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra in West Bengal.

Earlier, Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha in connection with the alleged cash for query scam.

TMC has made Moitra its candidate from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency in Nadia district. She was elected from this seat in 2019.

“CBI officials reached the residential flat of businessman DL Moitra in a residential complex called ‘Ratnabali’ in New Alipore area of South Kolkata,” sources said.

The CBI team was given Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) protection. However, CBI officials are maintaining silence about the reason behind the raid.

According to the report, Mahua Moitra does not live in the flat. When the CBI team reached there on Saturday morning, his father was also not present. In the last few days, there has been a spate of raids by ED and CBI in different areas of West Bengal.

On Friday, ED had raided the residence of Minister Chandranath Sinha in Birbhum district. Sources said ED officials recovered cash worth Rs 41 lakh and some incriminating documents from his residence.

Although the minister was not arrested by ED officials, sources said he was unable to give satisfactory answers about the source of the cash recovered from his residence.
