CBI summons TMC leader, Abhishek’s sister-in-law’s relative, for questioning

Kolkata| The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned the father-in-law and husband of Maneka Gambhir, the sister-in-law of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, in a move to further probe into the illegal coal smuggling case and the iCore Chit Fund case. The CBI has also summoned Trinamool Congress leader and Education Minister Partho Chatterjee in connection with the Icore Chit Fund scam on March 15.

“The CBI has called Maneka Gambhir’s father-in-law Pawan Arora and husband Ankush Arora to their office here on March 15 for questioning,” a source close to the investigation told.

The CBI has also questioned Abhishek’s wife Rujira Banerjee and her sister-in-law Maneka earlier in the same case.

Abhishek is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.

The CBI arrested Suman Chattopadhyay, editor of a leading Bengali daily, in connection with the case in December 2018.

The agency has alleged that the iCore group allegedly raised more than Rs 3,000 crore from people by offering high returns on investment, sending a portion of these funds to other companies.

The voting of 294 members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly will be held in eight phases on 27 March, 1 April, 6 April, 10 April, 17 April, 22 April, 26 April and 29 April. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
