Delhi CM attack case: Rajesh Khimji sent to 5-day police custody

New Delhi, Aug 21  Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakaria, who attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing on Wednesday, was sent to five-day police remand on Thursday.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday registered a case of attempted murder against 41-year-old Rajesh. The police is questioning the accused to know the reason behind the attack.

The Delhi Police said, “A case has been registered at Civil Lines police station under sections 109(1), 132, and 221 of the IPC in connection with the attack on the Chief Minister. The accused has been taken into police custody. All angles are being investigated.”

A team of central agencies and the Special Cell is also questioning the accused, the police said.

The police said Rajesh came to Delhi from Rajkot by train on Tuesday morning. This was his first visit to the national capital. He stayed at Gujarati Bhavan in Civil Lines. After this, he went to the private residence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in Shalimar Bagh and informed his friend about it over the phone.

Meanwhile, Rajesh’s criminal record has also been revealed. According to the police, five cases are registered against him at Bhaktinagar police station in Rajkot. He has been acquitted in four of these cases, while one case is still pending in the court, the next hearing of which will be on September 9.

The police said that Gujarat Police has been contacted in this matter and official confirmation of further information about the accused is awaited.

Let us tell you that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during ‘Jan Sunwai’ on Wednesday morning. During the weekly ‘Jan Sunwai’, a man suddenly came out and threw a heavy object at the Chief Minister, due to which Rekha Gupta fell on the ground.
