New Delhi| Delhi Women Commission has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in the case of the arrest of 21-year-old environmental activist Disha Ravi. According to DCW, Disha’s arrest violates legal procedures.
He has also mentioned that according to some media reports, Disha has been arrested for supporting the agitation for the last three months.
In the notice, the Delhi Women’s Commission has sought a copy filed against the direction from the Delhi Police. The commission has asked, “Was the procedure not followed during Disha’s arrest? Also, according to media reports, he was not provided with the lawyer of choice before being presented in court.”
Several activists who know the direction have also claimed that during the arrest, their parents were also not informed about where they were being taken.
Article 22 (1) of the Constitution gives every person the right to legal representation by the lawyer of choice after the arrest. The Commission has sought information from the police about the action taken so far in the case.
Delhi Women Commission chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “Disha has been arrested in a case related to agrarian agitation. According to media reports, the lawyer of choice was not given before presenting Disha to the court, along with some reports that the arrest. Legal procedures have not been properly followed even during the period. ”
“We have issued a notice to the police and have sought information about the case. The police should investigate the matter, but it is very unfortunate if the arrests were made to support the agrarian movement.”
