H1B visa is banned, why America’s ban is a big shock for India

US President Donald Trump halted the H1B Visa, hence Indian IT professionals will be the most affected. Sundar Pichai also expressed his displeasure over this news.

Indian IT professionals dreaming of a brilliant career in America have suffered a major setback. US President Donald Trump’s administration has halted the issuance of the most popular H-1B visas as well as other foreign work visas until the end of 2020. Trump’s move is aimed at securing jobs for American workers in this election year.

According to the official announcement released on Monday, the new restrictions will be effective from June 24. The order could have an impact on many Indian IT professionals and some US and Indian companies, who were issued H1B visas by the US government for FY 2021 starting October 1. All of them will now have to wait at least until the end of the current year before embarking on US diplomatic missions for stamping.

The H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa, which allows US companies to appoint foreign workers. Especially in those professions with specialization where theoretical or technical expertise is required. Technology companies depend on this visa to hire thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China.

In April this year, Trump signed an immigration order with a few exceptions targeting people outside the US who were thinking of legally migrating to the US. The order, which was to expire, will be extended to the end of 2020 and will also include some guest personnel visas.

Permanent ban on these visas

  • L-1 Intercompany Transfer
  • For H-1B Special Professionals
  • H-4 for spouse
  • H-2b non-agricultural worker temporary
  • J-1 Visitors Exchange

Sundar Pichai expressed his displeasure

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has expressed displeasure over Donald Trump decision. Pichai tweeted, “Immigration has contributed greatly to America’s economic success and provided it with global leadership in technology. At the same time, Google has reached the place it is today. Pichai said, ‘I am disappointed with today’s announcement. We are with the immigrants and will continue to work to create opportunities for all. ‘

The US corporate sector believes that a temporary ban on H1B visas will hurt innovation, investment and economic activity abroad. This decision will reduce the pace of economic growth in America. This will also hamper employment generation. Thomas Donahue, CEO of the US Chambers of Commerce, said, “Restrictive changes to our country’s immigration policy will put pressure on our investment and economic activity abroad. This will slow down growth and reduce job creation. ‘

Thomas Donahue said – Today’s announcement is an attempt to put our legitimate immigration system in serious trouble. For engineers, executive, doctors, nurses, IT specialists and other working people, putting a board of ‘not welcome in the country’ will not help us, rather it will push us further.
