Every valid vote should be counted: Washington Governor Inslee

Washington State Governor Inslee has said that every valid vote cast during the US presidential election this week should be counted. “There was always a possibility, we wouldn’t know who would win the presidency on election night,” Xinhua quoted Inslee as saying on Wednesday.

Washington State Governor Inslee said, “This year most Americans vote sooner and mail than before because of the Covid-19 epidemic. Those votes must be legal, duly cast and counted, even if it takes some time.”

He continued, “The voice of Americans is so precious that it can be waited on.”

Washington Governor Inslee noted that local election officials across the state of Washington have tirelessly attempted to ensure that this is a safe election and that “there is no information to suggest anything else at our state or national level.”

He said, “We know enough that counting continues until the completion of every ballot. In this way elections have always worked and this process must be respected.”

In his statement, the governor also called for elected officials across the country to protect the will of the voters, regardless of party.

Significantly, on Wednesday morning, US President Donald Trump claimed that the election had been ‘cheated’ and would go to the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of Tuesday’s vote.

Without giving any evidence, the president addressed supporters and family in the White House, saying, “This is a deception of the American public. It is shameful for our country. To be fair, we won this election.”

Trump said he would go to the US Supreme Court and “wanted to stop all voting.”
