First Skill Training Program on Green Hydrogen Launched at Hindu College

New Delhi: Hindu College, in association with the Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC, set up under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas – MoPNG) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship – MSDE, launched the first skill training program on ‘green hydrogen’ for young students under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana-PMKVY scheme. This is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission-NGHM, in which a large number of students will be given this awareness programme on Green Hydrogen.

Green Hydrogen is produced using water electrolysis with electricity generated by renewable energy. This unique four-day skill training course on Green Hydrogen includes 11 comprehensive sessions designed for students to enhance their knowledge and expertise in this emerging field. Gaining skills and training in Green Hydrogen positions India as a leading producer and supplier of Green Hydrogen globally, developing Indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

In the inaugural session, Principal of Hindu College, Prof. Anju Srivastava, said, ‘It is an honour for the College to be declared a Training Centre for this purpose, and this opens a significant opportunity for students to learn the nuances of the rapidly advancing technology involved in building clean fuel for a sustainable and clean environment and future. The salient features of the green hydrogen course are that it is a 30-hour course, including field visits. It provides one credit that can be recorded in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). These 11 sessions cover a wide range of topics, starting with an introduction to the hydrocarbon sector, followed by discussions on greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, hydrogen properties, and its potential as a green energy carrier. The course also delves into the National Green Hydrogen Mission, various green hydrogen production methods, hydrogen compression and storage technologies, green hydrogen transportation, applications, and disaster management.’

She further added that this training is an initiative by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India. In which participants will gain insights into the hydrocarbon sector, including the oil and natural gas sectors and their subsectors, as well as the global and Indian oil and gas scenarios. The importance of energy transition in the oil and gas sector, the greenhouse effect, major greenhouse gases, global warming, GHG emissions, and net-zero scenarios will also be covered. The course will address the technologies for achieving net-zero emission targets, the basics of hydrogen molecules, the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen, and its uses.

Under the valuable guidance of Dr. G.S. Kapur – Advisor (R&D), GAIL India Ltd., Dr. T. Bera, DGM – R&D, Indian Oil, Shri S K Bose, CEO, HSSC, and Prof. Anju Srivastava, more than 50 students are participating in this comprehensive course, which aims to equip students with a deep understanding of green hydrogen, its applications, and its potential to revolutionize the energy sector.
