For the second time, power in Delhi will pass from one woman to another

New Delhi, February 19 . BJP MLA Rekha Gupta is going to be the next Chief Minister of Delhi. She will take oath as the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi on Thursday. This is the second occasion in Delhi when the command of power will pass from one woman Chief Minister to another woman Chief Minister.

Earlier in 1998, BJP lost the election when BJP leader Sushma Swaraj was the Chief Minister. Then Congress’s Sheila Dixit became the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Now in the same way, Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi was the Chief Minister of Delhi, but Aam Aadmi Party has lost the Delhi Assembly elections. Rekha Gupta has been chosen as the leader of the Legislative Party from the winning Bharatiya Janata Party.

One special thing is that Rekha Gupta will be the only woman Chief Minister of BJP in the entire country at present. She will be the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi. Sushma Swaraj was the Chief Minister of Delhi for only 52 days in the year 1998. After this, BJP had to face defeat in the Assembly elections. Congress returned to power in Delhi and Sheila Dixit remained the Chief Minister for 15 years.

After Sheila Dixit, when the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal became the head of this government. While being the Chief Minister, he had to go to jail. After coming out of jail, Arvind Kejriwal resigned from his post, then Atishi became the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi. Now the Bharatiya Janata Party has defeated Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in the assembly elections.

Rekha Gupta is an MLA from Shalimar Bagh assembly constituency. She has been a prominent student leader during her college days. She was a member of the BJP’s student organization ABVP. She has been the General Secretary and President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU).

Rekha Gupta, a member of the National Executive of BJP and General Secretary of Delhi Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party, has done B.Com from Delhi University. After this, she obtained LLB degree in 2022.

Before reaching the Delhi Legislative Assembly, she has also been a councilor and Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation several times. She was elected as a councillor of the Delhi Municipal Corporation from North Pitampura in 2007. After this, in the year 2012, she was once again elected as a councillor from North Pitampura. In the year 2022, she was also the mayoral candidate in the Delhi Municipal Corporation against Aam Aadmi Party’s Shelly Oberoi.
