Goa Chief Minister Announces Curfew From 9-23 May

Panaj| Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday, a state-level curfew will be imposed in Goa from May 9 to May 23. People have been urged to stay indoors more and more to break the Covid chain. Stores selling essential commodities including grocery stores will be open from 7 am to 1 pm. Medical stores will also be functional during the curfew period and restaurant kitchens will be allowed to be open from 7 am to 7 pm.

Sawant said, “A detailed order will be issued by the concerned district collectors on Saturday evening.”

Asked about the difference between the lockdown, which has been demanded by industry owners and stakeholders of the travel and tourism industry, and a state-level curfew that he plans to implement from May 9, he said both (lockdown and Curfew) means the same.

Sawant said, if someone is seen roaming the streets during curfew, the police will take action under punitive sections. No one should go out of the house unnecessarily.

Sawant said that the state administration would not allow marriages even during the curfew period. Weddings are called super spreader events. He also said that the state government is preparing the infrastructure to deal with the third Covid wave.

The opposition termed the announcement of state-level curfew as a matter of service.

Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat said, “Goa needs big measures, things will not be served. The numbers are increasing and people are dying. Goa Covid is an emergency.
