New Delhi, August 20 In the last 11 years, digital technology has brought a big change in the lives of people. Digital India, Digital Public Infrastructure, UPI payment system, 5G connectivity and semiconductor ecosystem together have given India a new identity.
Under the visionary leadership of the Modi government, the use of technology in different fields has brought many benefits to the citizens, but along with this, some new risks have also emerged in the digital world. Keeping these dangers in mind, the government has come up with the ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025’.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Wednesday introduced the ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025’ in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims to promote and regulate e-sports, educational and social sports, as well as impose a complete ban on the offering, operation, facilitation, advertising, promotion and participation in online money games.
This bill encourages e-sports and online social games. Also, it will ban online money gaming services, advertisements and financial transactions related to them. All online betting and gambling activities from online fantasy sports will also be declared illegal.
Through this bill, the government is trying to save the youth from the clutches of online real money gaming apps, which get trapped in it in deceptive ways and this leads the whole family to financial crisis. Apart from this, online money gaming platforms are often misused for financial fraud, money laundering, terrorism financing and messaging activities that compromise national security.
The government believes that serious consequences such as addiction, financial loss and even suicide associated with online money gaming can be prevented by banning such activities.
To promote e-sports, the Sports Ministry will set up a dedicated framework. Different ministries will collaborate for online social games.
