Hindu College is launching the first skill training program for young students under the PMKVY scheme

Hindu College, in association with the Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC, set up under the aegis of MoPNG) and MSDE, is launching the first skill training program in this sector for young students under the PMKVY scheme. This four-day skill training course is designed for students to enhance their knowledge and expertise in the emerging field of green hydrogen. This unique course will be commenced on Monday 05.08.2024 and over on Thursday 08.08.2024

Prof. Anju Srivastava, the Principal of Hindu College, said that ‘it is an honour for the College to be declared a Training Centre for this purpose, and this opens a significant opportunity for students to learn the nuances of the rapidly advancing technology involved in building clean fuel for a sustainable and clean environment and future. The salient features of the course are as follows: it is a 30-hour course, including field visits spanning four days. It provides one credit that can be recorded in the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). This course will include 11 comprehensive sessions. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, starting with an introduction to the hydrocarbon sector, followed by discussions on greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, hydrogen properties, and its potential as a green energy carrier. The course will also delve into the National Green Hydrogen Mission, various green hydrogen production methods, hydrogen compression and storage technologies, green hydrogen transportation, applications, and disaster management.’

Participants will gain insights into the hydrocarbon sector, including the oil and natural gas sectors and their subsectors, as well as the global and Indian oil and gas scenarios. The importance of energy transition in the oil and gas sector, the greenhouse effect, major greenhouse gases, global warming, GHG emissions, and net-zero scenarios will also be covered. The course will address the technologies for achieving net-zero emission targets, the basics of hydrogen molecules, physical and chemical properties of hydrogen, and its uses.

Further, the course will discuss the green hydrogen value chain, current supply and demand scenarios, the National Green Hydrogen Mission, and India’s preparedness for green hydrogen.

The necessity of hydrogen compression, various physical and chemical methods of hydrogen storage, liquid hydrogen, volume-weight conversions, and ways to transport hydrogen will be discussed. This includes transportation in cylinders and tune trailers, chemical form transportation, and liquid hydrogen transportation. The applications of green hydrogen in refineries, chemicals, green ammonia, fuel-cell vehicles, ICE vehicles, maritime transport, green steel production, electricity turbines, and residential use will also be covered.

This comprehensive course aims to equip students with a deep understanding of green hydrogen, its applications, and its potential to revolutionise the energy sector. Dr G.S. Kapur – Advisor (R&D), GAIL India Ltd., Dr T Bera, DGM – R&D, Indian Oil and Dr S.S. Gupta, Advisor (Technical) CHT and Prof. Anju Srivastava will guide students as the course faculty member.
