Hindu College, University of Delhi launched a unique certificate course on Green Chemistry

New Delhi :Green Chemistry Network Centre, Hindu College, University of Delhi launched a unique certificate course on Green Chemistry: Shaping our Sustainable Future, designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical insights into sustainable chemical practices, at the Sushila Devi Auditorium, Hindu College, University of Delhi. The occasion was graced by Dr. Ettigounder Ponnusamy, Director and Fellow, Green Chemistry, MilliporeSigma, US.

The event commenced with the lighting of the sacrificial lamp by the chief guest along with Prof. R.K. Sharma, Honorary Secretary, RSC London North India Section and Director, Green Chemistry Network Centre, Prof. Anju Srivastava, Principal, Hindu College, Prof. Reena Jain, Vice-Principal, Hindu College and the professors of the Department of Chemistry, Hindu College.

Prof. Srivastava delivered the welcome address, formally welcoming Dr. Ponnusamy to Hindu College. She emphasized the challenges faced during the initial years of Green Chemistry, and how the view has slowly changed in the past few years. This was followed by an insightful introductory session on Green Chemistry and Green Chemistry Network Centre by Prof. Sharma.

The highlight of the event was the inaugural lecture by Dr. Ponnusamy, who introduced the participants to a new cutting-edge tool on Green Chemistry, DOZN™3.0 — a third party-validated/published green chemistry evaluator based on the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry which can be used to evaluate the relative greenness of chemical processes and hence provide a framework for learning about green chemistry and designing or improving materials, products, processes, and systems.

The course generated a great response in the scientific community, with over fifty registrations across institutions in India and abroad. This course represents a significant step toward equipping the participants with the knowledge and tools needed to drive innovation while minimizing environmental impact. By integrating the principles of Green Chemistry into education and practice, there is a hope to foster a new generation of scientists and professionals dedicated to responsible and ethical scientific advancements.
