Hindu College's Republic Legacy Shines with Former Prime Ministers and Leaders of Oppositions Gathering at 125th Anniversary Gala

New Delhi: Hindu College, a beacon of academic brilliance and democratic ideals, currently celebrating its 125th anniversary, organised a spectacular event titled “Former Prime Ministers’ & Leaders of Oppositions Meet of the Republic of Hindu College.” The celebration showcased the rich legacy of the Republic of Hindu College’s parliamentary system, dating back to the 1920s, with a profound history deeply rooted in the National Movement for Independence; Hindu College has been at the forefront of fostering a sense of nationalism and discipline among its students.

Chief Guest Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker of Lok Sabha, praised the legacy of Hindu College. In his insightful speech, he acknowledged the institution’s commitment to democratic values and applauded the significant contributions of Hindu College to the national educational landscape. He urged the students to participate in the nation-building process and emphasised that the youth of today will take India to be a Viksit Bharat.

Hindu College Principal Prof. Anju Srivastava shared that this was a unique event organised at Hindu College when it is celebrating its 125th anniversary. The parliament of Hindu College celebrates the spirit of democracy through the vibrant and unique culture of good governance present in our student parliament, dating back to India’s independence. Today, this unique event brought together all former Prime Ministers and Leaders of the Opposition on the occasion of the glorious 125 years of Hindu College. The interaction session led to former students recollecting their time at Hindu College, evoking a sense of nostalgia, humour and bonhomie. All these gathered dignitaries have excelled in their lives, achieving name and fame in advocacy, bureaucracy, administration, journalism, cinema, art, literature, academia, and other distinguished fields. They truly inspired and motivated our students.’ She further said.
It is noted that some of the distinguished personalities, such as veteran Journalist Brij Bhardwaj; Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri; Former Secretary of Home Affairs, Government of India; Raj Bhargava, eminent lawyer Dr. Lalit Bhasin; Former Diplomat and Chairman of Hindu College Governing Body, T. C. A. Rangachari; Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Hemant Jawahar Lal; Additional Superintendent of Police (Law) at the National Investigation Agency, Bhargav Sanjeevan Goswami, were the Prime Ministers during the college’s final year. Subsequently, the Ambassador of India to Lebanon, Noor Rahma Sheikh, and Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Vineet Vinayak, were the Leaders of the Opposition during their college days.

The students, teachers, and alumni were also mesmerised by the Kathak recital, “SWARAAH,” by the renowned dancer and alumna of Hindu College Rachana Yadav and her troupe. The mesmerising performance added a cultural dimension to the celebration, showcasing the diversity and talent nurtured at Hindu College.
